The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is recommending that the United States end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals in January 2018. Eliminating the program will create a hardship for those that have been here for the last seven years.
A final decision rests with Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly. That decision will impact about 50,000 Haitians if it is decided to end the program.
